ASVAB Scoring
There is no such a thing that an individual passes or fails in the ASVAB test. The ASVAB test only measures the abilities of an individual in different areas. For enrollment in the military the student must get a minimum score. This minimum score differs from every military branch to another. Every section score is given along with a composite score of three areas. The three composite scores are as follows.
Verbal Ability Composite = Word Knowledge Score + Paragraph Comprehension Score
Math Ability Composite = Arithmetic Reasoning Score + Mathematics Knowledge Score
Academic Ability Composite = Verbal Ability Composite + Math Ability Composite
The Raw Score is calculated with the following formula:
(Word Knowledge Score x 2) + (Paragraph Comprehension Score x 2) + (Arithmetic Reasoning Score) + (Mathematics Knowledge Sore) = Raw Score
For example, if the score 30 on Word Knowledge, 20 on Paragraph Comprehension, 25 on Arithmetic Reasoning, and 25 Mathematics Knowledge, your raw score would be 150. This raw score is converted in to percentage scores. The percentage scores are very important for recruitment.
The combination score derived from Academic Ability Composite score and the Mechanical Comprehension and Electronics Information scores are the scores considered for military purposes. The test results will be accompanied by a book titled ‘Military Careers’. This book carries information about the careers available in military and also the job openings in each section. Based on the military Career scores, a graph will be provided where the chances of the student getting accepted in any section. The General Science and Auto and Shop Information scores are used to identify other career areas that an individual will be successful by the recruiters.
