NCLEX Introduction

The NCLEX tests are standardization tests to get a professional licensure for the nurses. All nurses must pass NCLEX before they can work as registered nurses in the US. This test is created and administered by the NCSBN (National Council of State Boards of Nursing. The acronym NCLEX stands for National Council Licensure Examination. The NCSBN develops and takes care of two national nurse licensure tests; the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Both the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN cover a lot of similar syllabus but the question pattern and number of questions are different in the exams.

The NCLEX is the final test that is required to take up nursing as a career. The test basically tests the understanding of the basic principles of nursing and how they will be applied in various situations of patient safety and administration. These tests are computer-based tests. The NCLEX test determines the analytical thinking capability of the nurse and also if she is ready to start the profession.
