PMP FORMAT
The examination consists of a total of 200 multiple choice questions, among which 25 are considered as pretest question. These questions are randomly allotted throughout the exam and are not instrumental in altering the candidate’s score. The time duration of the examination is four hours. Before beginning the exam, there could be a fifteen minutes computer tutorial that the candidate should take up.
The questions for the examinations are developed and evaluated by content experts in global work groups. The question could be asked with reference to the current resources based on text books on project management. They are monitored via psychometric analysis and are on par with specifications of job analysis.
The candidates are now being provided with an overall percentage of correctly answered questions in each domain. For scoring a pass in PMP exam, the candidates are required to answer a minimum of 106 questions correctly out of total 175 questions (excluding 25 pretest questions).
The language of the examination is English. However, for candidates who have second language as English, there are ten other language aids which can be option. The language aids are offered in French, Hebrew, German, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Italian
The new format of exam introduced by PMI during 2004, emphasizes on practical knowledge and hence includes more of scenario based questions than the direct ones. The results of the exams are divided among the six areas and there is no separate pass marks required for individual areas.
